Die Weisse

Die Weisse

Since 1901 - and therefore Austria's oldest wheat beer brewery. Around 1900 it was still common in the 50 breweries of Salzburg to produce strong bock beers. Adelbert Behr created a light and fragrant wheat beer in his small brewery in Schallmoos. A light, amber-colored wheat beer with a fruity aroma and a fine white foam. That was the birth of the Salzburger WEISSEN and at the same time the beginning of a new beer-era! With over 100 years of history, DIE WEISSE is Austria's oldest wheat beer brewery. Then as now, high-quality craftsmanship is practiced there. Felix Gmachl, who took over the management of the family business on January 1st in 2015, shows with his new innovation of the first gluten-free organic wheat beer that tradition and innovation are not mutually exclusive.

The art of traditional brewing with high quality craftsmanship

To this day, the beers are brewed strictly following the original recipe and the tried-and-true production process of the founder Adelbert Behr. The bottle-conditioned, naturally cloudy wheat beer is known far beyond the borders of Salzburg and stands for tradition and quality. The local carefully selected raw materials and the gentle maturation give the beer its characteristic taste. The conscientious control of the production process and the unique secondary fermentation in the swing top bottle guarantee superior quality. An incomparable drinking experience with a gentle fruity note and a frothy head. Guaranteeing the quality of the "original" requires a great deal of experience. The brewer must have finesse, ultimately making the brewing trade an art.

A brewery inn like 100 years ago

If you enter the well-known pub at the Rupertgasse, you will be welcomed by a beautiful fresco of the city founder of Salzburg and the patron saint of the house, Saint Rupert, therefore RUPERTIHOF. In the cosy rooms with tiled stove and wood panelling you can immediately feel the "beery atmosphere" and a look at the menu confirms the growing gut feeling - "... this is where I feel at home". Besides an in depth description of the home-brewed beers, traditional dishes from the kitchen complete the overall impression perfectly - " IT'S FUN IN THE MOUTH!".
