Clara Haberkamp Trio

Clara Haberkamp: piano | James Banner: bass | Mareike Wiening: drums

In May 2024, pianist Clara Haberkamp received high praise and a nomination for the German Record Prize for a trio project: for her album “Plateaux,” recorded with bassist Oliver Potratz and drummer Jarle Vespestad. Despite her versatility from solo – her unforgettable solo concert in the Collegiate Church (Kollegienkirche) at Jazz&TheCity 2023  has to be mentioned here – to big band, the trio is her anchor. In Salzburg, she is introducing a new line-up. British bassist James Banner is attracting attention as an active part of the Berlin improvisation scene, especially with his ensemble USINE. After seven successful years in the USA, drummer Mareike Wiening has continued her career seamlessly in Germany since 2019 and was nominated for the German Jazz Prize this year.

Clara Haberkamp Trio

As the daughter of jazz musicians Ilona and Thomas Haberkamp – her father is also manager of the North Rhine-Westphalia Youth Jazz Orchestra – the path of pianist and singer Clara Haberkamp was, in a way, predetermined. She moved to her adopted home of Berlin to study and released her first two albums during that time. In addition to her cross-genre work with Susanne Betancor and Gustav Peter Wöhler as well as her place in David Friedman’s Generations Quartet, she has continued her solo and trio projects and made a name for herself with an unmistakable, fearless style full of extremes. Her current album “Plateaux” in particular is causing a stir internationally.
