Crutches international quartet, based in Berlin and Leipzig, delivers uncompromising ambient and progressive jazz with lots of electronics (one critic calls their music “acrobatic punk”). Well-drawn compositions with excessive outbursts, but also surprising islands of harmony. Four young wild ones, who have already left their mark in other formations, are putting these sound collages, which have attracted attention at several festivals: French sound tinkerer Laure Boer, German guitarist Jan Frisch, Russian keyboardist Olga Reznichenko and Austrian drummer Valentin Schuster. At Jazz&TheCity they are also presenting their debut album with the fitting title “4 LTTR WRDS.”
