Nitai Hershkovits

Having become known as accompanist to fellow Israelis Avishai Cohen and Oded Tzur, Nitai Hershkovits is the next in a line of outstanding Israeli jazz pianists, from Omer Klein to Shai Maestro, to step into the spotlight himself. At Jazz&TheCity, he presents his stunning ECM solo debut album “Call on the Old Wise.” Completely improvised, the short, dabbed-on pieces work with classical forms. At times it sounds like a modern Rachmaninoff or Scriabin, impressionistic and full of dark beauty, astonishing both technically and in terms of imagination. No wonder one critic has already called Hershkovits a “singular melodic talent.”
