Taiko Saito invites
Taiko Saito: vibraphone
The Japanese artist Taiko Saito also learned piano and drums, but her specialty lies in between: the marimba and the vibraphone. She was the first marimba soloist to graduate from Tōhō Music Academy in Tokyo with a diploma. In 1997 she began studying improvisation and composition and moved to Berlin the following year to learn with world-class vibraphonist David Friedman. Soon after, she ascended to become a fixed star on the European scene: with Lunatique Asylum, Trio Kokotob, Trickster Orchestra, Rupert Stamm’s vibraphone quartet Xylon, her own projects as well as in classical context with Orchestre d'Auvergne and Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, for example. In Salzburg, as the winner of the Berlin Jazz Prize 2023 and the German Jazz Prize 2024, she is inviting guests in the “Invites” series.
