We love culture. The versatility, boundlessness and freedom associated with this term. We don't like stiffness. Fortunately, the cultural scene in Altstadt Salzburg is anything but stiff. Rather, it is vibrant, eager to experiment and celebrates life. The spectrum ranges from modern classical music to music events of all genres, traditional and culinary events to lifestyle and design festivals. The rich cultural landscape reflects the soul of the Altstadt - sensual. Pleasure. Experience.
Opera, drama, ballet - the cultural offering the Salzburg Landestheater is broad and offers diversity in every conceivable form. The "Junges Land" segment was created for young people interested in culture. 400 performances take place in the building's historic halls during the theatre season, which lasts from September to June.

The puppeteers have been offering a very special kind of performance since 1913. With elaborately crafted puppets, the theater stages plays like in a large opera house. It is truly not a theater for children, but for all lovers of this genre. The puppet craft is difficult to learn and not only requires excellent body control and a love of art, but also dedication and a lot of talent. In 2016, UNESCO declared the Salzburg Puppet Theatre an immaterial cultural heritage. If you are interested in a performance, you will find all the essential information on the puppet theater's website.
At the Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery, international artists exhibit their most spectacular works. The gallery alone, located in the famous Villa Kast by the Mirabell Garden, radiates a truly extraordinary flair. Approximately 40 individual and group exhibitions are held each year. From Salzburg, Paris, Marais, Paris Pantin and London, the gallery represents some of the most influential artists of our time.
Quaint medieval houses characterize the Bergstrasse in Altstadt Salzburg. But they are not the reason why so many Salzburgers and guests visit this place. It is the art galleries that share the alleyway with the many stylish bars and pubs.
The KunstQuartier in particular is very popular among art enthusiasts. In the halls of the former Salzburg printing works, a true art center was created. The Camerata Salzburg, the stage of the acting department of the University Mozarteum Salzburg, the community television station FS1, the Salzburg College, the Canta school of singing, parts of the Paris Lodron University, violin makers Mücke-Elschek, the Salzburg Amateur Theatre Association and the TSB Architects are all located here.
The "Walk of Modern Art", off the beaten track, features unique works created for public spaces by contemporary artists. The places, as well as the works of art themselves, are diverse, exciting and definitely worth a visit.
