Big Band of the Sport and Music RG Salzburg

Schoolband from Salzburg

The big band band “groovn’ the shades” from the Sport und Musik RG in Salzburg has developed into an insider tip in recent years and, in addition to various school events, has also performed very successfully at Jazzit, among others.

This big band is purely a student band and is open to students of all school levels, so the line-up with flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, horns, violin, singers and rhythm section is very unusual and requires its own arrangements, all written by the leader, Fritz Kronthaler become. The students are involved in the selection of pieces, which is why the program design for a big band is unusual and the result is an exciting mix of traditional big band pieces, current pop songs, hits from the 70s and 80s and pieces composed and arranged by students.

The band brings together students who are already studying at the Mozarteum Pre-College, but also almost beginners, with the aim of bringing students of different ages and educational levels together musically and personally for a common project. The resulting sense of community has already been brought to the stage abroad and now on the big stage at Residenzplatz, as the opening of the Big Band Summit!
