MAIIJA (AUT)

The press once called her “Austria's most interesting voice in the indie sector.” Then, she appeared less and less. However, 13 years after her last album release, MAIIJA, formerly known as MARILIES JAGSCH, is well and truly back. Her project, MAIIJA, is more than just Marilies Jagsch: “MAIIJA are the many lyrical selves within us that are seeking expression” she says. The stories MAIIJA tells on her current album “I AM” describe the demands of our performance-oriented society that become embedded in the individual, the struggle against the structures we learn from an early age, the attempt to break out of them, one’s own failures and how they affect our lives and relationships with others.
