Cleo Reed
Released in 2025, Cleo Reed’s double LP CUNTRY explores the anger that emerges from struggling against the constraints of labor. While the first record draws on the canon of American work songs—blues, soul, folk, and country—the second takes a darker, more dystopian, and rap-centered sonic approach. Together, the two contrasting halves reflect the duality and opposing forces that shaped Reed’s upbringing in New York City and their family’s Southern roots.
CUNTRY was named one of the best albums of 2025 by Pitchfork, Stereogum, That Good Sht*, and NPR Music. Reed was also selected for Dazed magazine’s prestigious Dazed 100 list. In live performance, Reed seamlessly blends elements of jazz with folk, blues, soul, and contemporary electronic music.

Cleo Reed is a multidisciplinary artist deeply engaged with the sound and ethos of the Black underground music scene. Raised in New York City and Washington, D.C., Reed's musical journey spans classical percussion training at the Harlem School of the Arts, guitar playing and songwriting with the influential New York punk band Pretty Sick, and studies in audio engineering and sound design at Berklee College of Music.
A young visionary with a distinctive artistic voice, Cleo Reed continues to push musical boundaries through an innovative and uncompromising creative approach.
