Pixvae
Pixvae’s compact and powerful sound has become a trademark, with the marimba de chonta at the heart of the repertoire. This traditional instrument is central to currulao, the Afro-Colombian music of Colombia’s Pacific coast. Together with his long-standing partners Léo Dumont on drums and Damien Cluzel on guitar from the Kouma Power Trio, Romain Dugelay’s saxophones and keyboards meet the marimba of Juan Carlos Arrechea, Israël Quiñones on congas and vocals, and the outstanding voice of lead singer Jennifer “Xiomora” Torres. After two intense years of touring, the band is now performing at the height of its powers—tight, energetic, and in outstanding form.
Artist
Pixvae (F / COL)
Pixvae is a danceable musical encounter mapped onto an imaginary continent. At the crossroads of Africa, the Atlantic, and the Pacific, bandleader Romain Dugelay has assembled a seven-piece ensemble that connects traditional Colombian music with Lyon’s underground scene. The result is an explosive blend of Afro-Colombian rhythms, polyphonic, call-and-response-style vocals, and irresistible songs somewhere between Latin rock and jazz.
