Sophie Abraham
With her new album The Beauty in Between, Sophie Abraham opens a multifaceted new chapter in her musical journey, combining intimacy with a wide-ranging sonic openness. “What happens is meant sincerely—it is not about seeking the spotlight,” says the cellist and composer, who moves effortlessly between classical music, jazz, and improvised music to create a sound that is entirely her own.
At the heart of the album’s nine pieces are the beauty of subtle nuances, moments of reflection, and the power of musical encounters. The music invites listeners to embrace delicate details and emotional depth, and to surrender themselves as fully as Sophie does on stage: “I can completely immerse myself in it, and in that moment I don’t think about anything else.”
In the magnificent setting of the Kollegienkirche, the album—originally recorded in her home studio—finally receives the stage it deserves.
