Suonno d'Ajere

The line-up of Suonno d’Ajere recalls the Neapolitan tradition of posteggia, a form of street and tavern music that was especially popular in the 19th century and enjoyed by both ordinary people and the ruling classes. The trio’s musical approach, however, is far more refined. They seek to free these historic songs from commercialisation and kitsch, restoring their dignity and expressive power—and with remarkable success. Their debut album Suspiro was released worldwide in 2021 and was promptly nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik). Since then, Suonno d’Ajere have become regular guests at showcase events and festivals around the globe. Their music is characterised by sophisticated rhythms and subtle, sometimes blues-inflected sounds that bring new nuances to their journey through the traditional repertoire of Neapolitan music.
