Drawing on their diverse artistic backgrounds, the three musicians create a compelling and unmistakable listening experience. Violinist Sarvin Hazin, who is equally versed in European classical music and traditional Iranian music, and cellist Anna Maria Niemiec, with her complex techniques and emotional nuances, enable the trio to move effortlessly between jazz, fusion, traditional, and contemporary music. Terrea succeeds in shaping this diversity into a cohesive whole that reaches beyond conventional musical boundaries.

The trio Terrea offers an exciting perspective and a fresh take on the music of Western Asia, particularly the rich musical traditions of Iran. The Claviton—a microtonal keyboard with 31 keys per octave, specially designed by musician and instrument maker Georg Vogel—allows composer Amir Ahmadi to explore Iranian and Arabic Dastgah and Maqam music in an entirely new way, particularly in terms of microtonality and tuning systems. Released earlier this year, their debut album Raz brings together Ahmadi’s compositions, weaving fragments of Persian musical vocabulary with elements of contemporary music into a new and deeply personal sonic language.
