Pilmaiquén Ciclos Premiere (AUT)
With Ciclos, Pilmaiquén has developed a work that needs no explanation, yet provides a deep physical, musical and visual narration. The band processes musical influences from cumbia, milonga, tango, traditional Alpine music, polyphonic choral singing from Slovakia and the Czech Republic and sonic hints from South Africa, not as quotations, but as resonances of a polyphonic heritage, into a 70-80-minute performative composition between sound, body and presence. This is a piece about the reverberations of inherited histories and the movement of identity through time and body.
The heart of the project comprises 16 original compositions staged in a hybrid live setting with eight musicians and six performers.
Pilmaiquén: Lead vocals | David Binderberger: Acoustic & Electric guitar | Svilen Angelov: Keyboard | Lukas Pamminger: Bass | Camillo Jenny: Drums & Drum pad | Gavriela: Backing vocals | Marlies Fürst: Backing vocals & Accordion
Artist
PILMAIQUÉN (AUT)
The interdisciplinary artist PILMAIQUÉN was born in Salzburg but has Argentinian, Italian, German, Czech, Austrian, South African and Jewish roots. She understands heritage not as a static anchor, but as a mobile archive. She started collecting fragments in conversations with her family, on her travels, in archives and recordings, not to reconstruct them, but to embody them. To listen, to dance, to compose. The piece Ciclos will have its world premiere in Salzburg, and represents her return to a primal impulse. “To a pulse that is older than me. And to a music that is both a memory and a vision.”
