Aïta Mon Amour (MAR)
The contemporary electronic project Aïta Mon Amour celebrates and preserves Morocco's unique musical heritage in its own captivating interpretation. Like the passing of the torch between generations, singer Widad Mjama creates a musical narrative with Aïta poems and songs that, expressed in soulful cries, find common ground between tradition and modernity. True to the spirit and depth of its origins, Aïta Mon Amour is powerful, touching and a journey into the history of the Chikhates. It radiates an authentic, next-generation feminism as a worthy heir.

Aïta Mon Amour (MAR)
Widad Mjama first emerged in 2001 as Morocco's first female rapper in the male-dominated underground music scene. Her latest musical project, Aïta Mon Amour, arose out of her fascination with the Chikhates; the singers, poets and preservers of Aïta, a centuries-old tradition of collective female expression. With Khalil Epi, a renowned electronic musician and accomplished loutar player, she explores the spellbinding oral tradition of “Aïta”, which dates back to the 12th century. Meaning “cry” in Moroccan, Aïta embodies both the cry of warriors and the sensual lament of love. The contemporary electronic project Aïta Mon Amour celebrates and preserves this unique Moroccan musical heritage with its own mesmerising interpretation.
