Anna Koch (AUT)

Clarinettist Anna Koch has travelled the world with her instrument. Her original compositions, including video material, show her in a dirndl dress, grooving alongside deer antlers, thus turning clichés of old-fashioned traditions upside down, or creating mysterious atmospheres in a misty pool. “I want to create an openness to other traditions,” she says. “I don’t pretend to understand every country. I am more likely to pack my bags and collect impressions and experiences to then pass them on.” The results are as humorous as they are cosmopolitan and virtuosic. Her exploration of her favourite instrument, the bass clarinet, is equally creative, as she finds multiple ways in which to explore its musical depths.

Anna Koch (AUT)

Anna Koch is just as active as a member of many prominent contemporary music ensembles as she is as a soloist. She initially played piano and trumpet and switched to the clarinet relatively late, aged 14. It was only during her studies that she put aside the trumpet and discovered the bass clarinet, which became her passion. Her performances present contemporary music, including videography, with humour and create new approaches through improvisations that invite the audience into a (non-) musical present.
