Church service Galiläachor and Müllner Cantorey
“He who sings prays twice” (Saint Augustine)
“If you don't understand its intellectual, spiritual side, you don't have all the jazz.” (Jimmy Heath)
The finale of Jazz&TheCity will be a church service with sung prayers: Will Todd (*1970), church composer and jazz pianist, wrote "Jazz Missa Brevis" in 2015 for the choir of Portsmouth Cathedral. Spirituals, one of the roots of jazz, are prayers for a better, more just life, and not just in the afterlife. The band acts as a mediator between the worlds.
