Mathias Landtwing Quartett (CH)

Bandleader and clarinettist Mathias Landtwing skilfully combines elements of Swiss folk music with creative arrangements to present a fresh approach to a mix of traditional dances such as Ländler and Polka. Embedded between Jazz Manouche, Swiss folk music, influences from world music and contemporary improvisation, the result is a vibrant and distinctive soundscape that combines tradition and innovation. Almost precisely one year before its performance at Jazz&TheCity, the Mathias Landtwing Quartet presented their first EP at Hidden Harlekin, a jazz club in Zug. The band has been on the road since then with a string of successful concerts throughout Switzerland.

Mathias Landtwing Quartett (CH)

Mathias Landtwing grew up in the countryside influenced by brass and folk music and developed his musical language when he moved to more urban areas. He had always wanted to bring his own music to the stage with a personal ensemble, and his wish was finally fulfilled with the Mathias Landtwing Quartet. Mathias Landtwing has found three outstanding musicians in Florian Mächler, Patrick Sommer and Christian Zünd, who have played a key role in shaping the quartet with their own ideas, diverse styles and considerable skill.
