Muriel Grossmann (AUT, ESP, SRB)
Muriel Grossmann is the representative of spiritual jazz and is coming to Salzburg for the closing of Jazz&TheCity. She is a virtuoso on the alto, soprano and tenor saxophone, combining spirited playing with compositions specifically written to showcase the strengths of her fellow musicians. Her works reflect the fusion of post-Coltrane modalism and spiritual post-bop. To sum up: “She plays sun-drenched, majestic jazz that revitalises rather than soothes” (Samir Köck). She performs with her tight-knit band, which performs more than 100 gigs a year and features an unusual Hammond organ. A must for fans of spiritual, slightly psychedelic grooves.

Muriel Grossmann (AUT, ESP, SRB)
Viennese saxophonist and composer Muriel Grossmann is considered a hot commodity in London, the epicentre of the spiritual jazz boom. She is signed to the renowned London indie label, Jazzman, among others, and Giles Peterson is a fan. In Austria, she doesn’t get as much recognition she deserves yet, and this could be because she now lives a secluded life on Ibiza and isn't exactly seeking the hype her recent albums have generated. “The majority of her fans are in the USA and the UK. This puts her in the pantheon of the few globally celebrated Austrian jazz musicians”, wrote Samir Köck in Die Presse. And: “She simply plays what flows out of her, which could be flamboyant, intense and in several vocal ranges, also on the tenor, alto and soprano saxophone”.
