Patricia Brennan & Sylvie Courvoisier (MEX, FRA)
The name TALAMANTI is inspired by the Mexican Nahuatl word “tlamantli”, which refers to two objects that simultaneously exhibit similarities and differences. The music of the Courvoisier/Brennan duo creates space for these similarities and differences. The compositions build on the unique instrumentation and the infinite sound possibilities of combining the two instruments. Both the exceptional pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and the vibraphonist Patricia Brennan explore and expand the sonic boundaries of their respective instruments, developing a new collective improvisational language that continues and enhances the legacy of this unusual instrumental pairing in jazz and improvisational music.

Mexican-born vibraphonist, marimbist, improviser and composer Patricia Brennan “has been widely feted as one of the instrument's newer leaders” writes The New York City Jazz Record. Patricia won the Best Vibraphonist award in Downbeat magazine's 70th (2022) and 72nd (2024) Critics’ Polls and placed fourth as Vibraphonist of the Year in the 71st (2023) and 72nd (2024) Critics’ Polls.
In the late 1990s, love (for violinist Mark Feldman) brought Sylvie Courvoisier to New York, where the pianist quickly became a fixture in the downtown experimental scene and, among others, was a long-standing performer at John Zorn's experimental club “The Stone”. The Lausanne-born musician has recorded over 50 albums for renowned labels since that time, including Enja, ECM, Intakt and Tzadik in various line-ups (including with Mark Feldman, Ellery Eskelin and Lucas Niggli); a truly massive output for someone still only in her 40s.
