Amir Ahmadi: Claviton (31-ton-Keyboard) and Composition
The trio Terrea offers an exciting perspective and a fresh take on the music of Western Asia, particularly the rich musical traditions of Iran. The Claviton—a microtonal keyboard with 31 keys per octave, specially designed by musician and instrument maker Georg Vogel—allows composer Amir Ahmadi to explore Iranian and Arabic Dastgah and Maqam music in an entirely new way, particularly in terms of microtonality and tuning systems. Released earlier this year, their debut album Raz brings together Ahmadi’s compositions, weaving fragments of Persian musical vocabulary with elements of contemporary music into a new and deeply personal sonic language.
