Animal Farm
George Orwell | Based on the novel
“Animal Farm” has been nominated as one of the 100 best English novels by TIME Magazine and is a strong parable about society.
Green meadows, peacefully grazing cows, birdsong and fresh country air – the perfect farm. At least that’s how it looks in commercials. In reality, life on the so-called Manor Farm is very different. One night, the old boar Old Major calls the animals together and delivers a fiery speech: why should animals work for humans who take everything from them? His vision is clear – a farm without humans, free and fair for all. But so – the pigs turn his ideas into a new doctrine: Animalism. Suddenly the revolution begins. For a while, the new law seems simple: All animals are equal. But slowly the rules change and privileges appear.
With “Animal Farm”, George Orwell created a sharp and haunting fable about revolution and the fragile nature of freedom.
Director Janna Ramos-Violante brings the story to the stage, and topics like “who gets to decide” and „whose voices are heard“ are more relevant than ever.
